Party On The Gowanus
Here's an event for local readers: the Gowanus Dredgers (a great name for an expansion team) are hosting a benefit on October 27th on the banks of the Gowanus Canal, an urban waterway I wrote about here a few weeks ago. It's still unclear to me what relationship the Dredgers bear to the Urban Divers, another pro-Gowanus outfit, but since both groups seem to be behind the benefit, the risk of factional violence is minimal, and the cause is worthy.
You are told to wear 'river shoes'. I don't know what this means; I will only point out that it has rained hard for most of October, and it might not be a bad idea to wear something high, waterproof and easy to clean.
Music will be provided by Hank Plank and the 2x4's, a man called Billy Bones the Friendly Pirate will be on hand to terrorize your children, and of course you never know what might come floating down the hardest working canal in Brooklyn. Write in if you want to meet at the Gowanus Yacht Club for beers before or after.
