View of Jackson Square
Oil on Canvas, 22" x 18"
May, 2005 46.98 hours.
This is a view looking north from Horatio street, just south of the 14th street / 8th Ave subway station, right where the Manhattan grid system collides with the older legacy street layout of the West Village, sowing confusion among passers-by. I would be asked for directions five or six times during every painting session. [neighborhood info]
The stand of trees in the middle distance is Jackson Square park. The building in the left foreground is an art deco tower, rumored to have served as the Governor's residence before the state capital was moved to Albany. The Empire State building is visible in the far distance.
