Still Life With Tomatoes, Basket and Bowl
Oil on Canvas, 28" x 12"
July, 2005
I prefer to stumble across still lifes rather than arrange them, so anyone living with me runs the risk of having random objects declared off-limits. My mother, who likes fresh fruits and has a kind of inner knack for arrangement, is particularly used to this kind of expropriation.
I painted this picture over three nights during a visit to Maine. The only canvas I had on hand was panoramic, but I ended up liking the effect of leaving bare margins and decided not to re-stretch the picture.
