Still Life With Dirty Dishes

Oil on Canvas, 22" x 15"

December, 1997

This is one of three dirty dish paintings to date; you can find a close cousin in a piggy still life and a more upscale variant with a copper sink.

This was my kitchenette at the Garage Honorat, the gas-station-cum-summer-villa I rented for most of the Provençal winter. Some of the items visible are Leader Price dish soap, a bag of sugar, a thermos, the bottom half of the ultimate yuppie camping accessory, a red mini-espresso-maker, a toilet paper roll, and the remains of some very cheap instant coffee. A perfect example of a painting everyone loves but no one wants to have hanging on their wall.

In my nearest approach to fame to date, this picture was featured in the Burlington Free Press in an article about a group show it was never displayed in.
